Greatest Hits - Volume 1

I think that one of the best ideas that the music industry came up with thousands of years ago was to alphabetize and compile a greatest hits mash-up into a single psalm. It's short, it's memorable (although more so in Hebrew), and it's inspirational. Yes, today's reading is one of a two volume set. It can all be yours for the low, low price of... Alright, I got a little carried away there. Seriously, memorize a verse in your favorite translation!

What songs of your life when God's presence and works were obvious still ring in your heart? What were the best times of your life? All glory to God. What were the worst times of your life? God was there with you. All glory to God! Contemplate listing out all of God's greatest hits with you, loved ones, and others.

Psalm 111  [sung on youtube]

Praise the Lord! I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.

Great are the works of the Lord, studied by all who delight in them.

Full of honor and majesty is his work, and his righteousness endures forever.

He has gained renown by his wonderful deeds; the Lord is gracious and merciful.

He provides food for those who fear him; he is ever mindful of his covenant.

He has shown his people the power of his works, in giving them the heritage of the nations.

The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.

They are established forever and ever, to be performed with faithfulness and uprightness.

He sent redemption to his people; he has commanded his covenant forever. Holy and awesome is his name.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever.

My God, I praise you this day in song and memories. I lift my life before you. I give you thanks for your mysterious presence made known in wonderful ways. All glory and honor are yours forever. Tune my heart to sing your praises! I humbly ask you to remain with those who are in need of a song. Fill them with your joy,... In Christ Jesus, I pray. Amen.
